Information reaching Mynewsgh indicates that six (6) dead bodies have been retrieved from an abandoned galamsey pit that caved in on some miners at Mansa Wassa in the Western Region.
According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) that confirmed the deaths to Mynewsgh a while ago, all six suspected illegal miners were confirmed dead after being rescued from the pit
Report by NADMO indicates that the incident occurred Thursday after the suspected illegal miners attempted to dig out gold deposits from the abandoned mining pit.
Speaking to the Western Region NADMO coordinator, Abdul Mohammed Ganiu he told. “we had the information of a pit that caved in yesterday from the hours of 10 am to 1 am. Those on the side knew very well that they were doing illegal business, they quickly found their way to pick up excavators to rescue the people but after they did that, the people were already dead.”
He added that the incident has however not been officially reported to the police, because other individuals involved are evading arrest.
