The ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch in the Western North Region have held press conference to brief the media on the purported rift between the Regional Minister Hon. Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu and his Deputy Hon. Alex Tetteh and also to cure the mischief and misconception created by the NDC in their recent press conference on the same issue.
Below is the full statement;
MEDIA BRIEFING ON THE RECENT POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN WESTERN NORTH REGION BY THE NPP
Our media friends, opinion leaders, ladies and gentlemen gathered here. We welcome you all to this emergency press briefing. Thank you for making time with us despite the short notice. It is our hope that, the media would do us a lot of favor this morning by ensuring that, the issues we are about to raise are put in the public domain especially to the hearing of the Western North Branch of the incompetent NDC.
ladies and gentlemen, we have called you this morning to touch on two things namely:
(1) To briefly touch on the purported rift between the Regional Minister and his deputy and matters arising thereof.
(2) To cure the mischief and misconception created by the NDC in their press conference
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the press gathered around, we would as in dealing with the above points raised, deal with them in seriatim for the purpose of clarity. They are;
(A) Purported rift between the regional minister and his deputy and matters arising: The New Patriotic Party has taken notice of the recent political developments at the Western North Regional Coordinating Council and a letter personally addressed to the Hon.Minister for local government and Rural development by Hon.Aboagye Gyedu dated 11th June,2019.
We have also taken notice of its reaction from the Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council,Katakyie Nana Kwasi Bumagama II. Ladies and gentlemen, like the proverbial tongue and the teeth,disagreements are daily occurrences in human institutions. It is therefore, how one attempts at resolving or addressing the said matter that matters most and not its escalation. Few months in office, both the Regional minister and his deputy have been seen working happily together until this letter got into the public domain.
We commend Hon.Aboagye Gyedu for resorting to the right grievance procedure(s) in his case by alerting the sector minister through the said letter which is the most accepted standard in conflict resolution and its management.
Though we acknowledge that,the claims raised in the said letter are purely administrative issues which falls within the purview of the sector minister for which reason her outfit was notified. We are also not oblivious of the fact that, certain portions of the letter” didn’t go down well” with the paramount chief of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council. The party has indeed followed that aspect of the matter keenly and we are not relenting in finding amicable solution in order to bring finality to this matter for the collective interest of the Newly created Region. The party also recognizes the immense contribution by the paramountcy during the creation of the Western North Region and would not do anything to undermine their effort. We are also using this avenue to call on party members to desist from any form of action that has the propensity of bringing the image of our traditional leaders into disrepute, mockery and ridicule.
It must also be put on record that, since the issue occurred,the party Regional chairman, Mr Benjamin Assuah led a delegation to Sefwi Wiawso Traditional council to have the issues they were not comfortable with in the letter resolved for amicable resolution in the interest of peace. Be that as it may and considering the tension associated with the matter, we are still committed in bringing an utmost finality to the issue at hand.
(2). Ladies and gentlemen of the press, it is quite curious and unfathomable,the disjointed call on the president by the NDC to dismiss the Regional Minister and his deputy without any reasonable.
We want to use this opportunity to remind the NDC if indeed they have short memory that, the worse happened in 27th July, 2007 when Hon.Alhaji Abdul Rauf an NDC MP used the floor of parliament to criminally abuse his colleague Member of parliament who is the current MP for Bodi constituency,Hon.Samson Ahi.
Both MP’s engaged in an open fight on a simple matter that could have been resolved by leadership. Even that, no one called for their outright removal as members of parliament. The question is, why should a minister be removed on the basis of administrative grievance expressed in a letter to an appropriate authority? Clearly the NDC’s press lacks cognitive reasoning and their needless call ought to be treated with the needed contempt it deserves.
We have also not forgotten the open scuffle between Hon.Joseph Yamin and his boss, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah at the sports ministry under former president Mahama which was undemocratic rift in respect of how each of them handled the most unpopular air lifting $3m to Brazil to pay appearance fee in 2014. The said matter got Hon.Joseph Yamin reshuffled to Ashanti Region as deputy Ashanti Regional minister. The question is, why didn’t the NDC call on former president Mahama to fire both ministers at that time? It appears that, the NDC has not recovered from the shock of the one million votes margin that landed them in opposition.
Ladies and gentleman that would be all for now.
