News; Ofosu Ampofo’s arrest FAKE- Police


The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has denied news in connection with the arrest of the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

News went viral on some online portals that Mr Ofosu Ampofo had been picked up by the police after the CID secured a court warrant for his arrest.

Checks at the CID Headquarters indicate that the claim is untrue could be fueled by some faceless persons for reasons unknown.

One of the lawyers of the NDC national executive, Abraham Amaliba has also confirmed same wondering who could be peddling such falsehood in the media to spark tension.

The NDC at the weekend hinted that it had picked information there were plans to arrest Mr Ofosu Ampofo who is already standing trial over his comments in an alleged leaked tape

According to NDC, the imminent arrest of their chairman is schemed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in pursuit of a clandestine agenda

A statement copied to signed by the Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah said the party is solidly behind its national chairman at all times.

The NDC called on the government to treat its chairman with respect and dignity.

‘We wish to state that the national chairman is a law abiding citizen who will never flout an order properly obtained from a court with authority to do so,’ the statement said.
