NUGS CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO TAKE EXPEDIENT ACTION ON THE CID BOSS ON MISSING GIRLS

Warm Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen! Thank you for coming in large numbers and making this event a
success.

In our country, we give so much importance to family and the kind of values it teaches. Ghanaian values
are founded on the joint family system and the whole concept of nuclear families doesn’t appeal to us
though it is gradually gaining grounds in our Society. We believe in taking everyone along and
understand the importance of a family.
Unfortunately, many people do not realize the importance of family values till the time they experience
a situation of crisis which ultimately shakes them to the core. It is at that time when they find
themselves completely alone without any emotional support and then they begin realizing the
importance of a family.

Family is what sustains us and serves as a bundle of joy in the absence of which
life becomes completely hollow.
It is against this backdrop that, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) ) Led by Mohammed S
Gombilla appreciates the Family’s effort to give the “Girls” a decent education and ensuring that they
reach their full potentials.

Why is the Issue a matter of concern to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS)?
The child is supported by four pillars, the government, the teacher, parents and the students Union. It is
therefore imperative on the Union to join hands and ensure that the kidnapped Girls are found and
returned to their families.

We want the General Public to understand that the greatest asset of every nation is their Students.

Out of these Students a nation can boast of potential Engineers, Planners, Security Personnel’s, and legal
Practitioners etc.

As part of our core mandate the safety and security of these students is out topmost priority and we
have always remained anchored to our mandate.

On the Issues:
The national Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Led by Mohammed S Gombilla and his secretariats wish
to register our displeasure on how the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is handling the whole
issue.

The Police made an arrest and later the culprit escaped on December 30, 2018 with the helped of
security officials and was rearrested on January 3rd, 2019.

The condition of parents and families of these wards keep getting bad, they’re devastated, sick and tired
of manipulations by state security officials. Families of these victims have simply lost confidence in the
police, they’ve resorted to the media to create government awareness and demand they help them get
their wards.

In the past few months, the police have not lived up to the expectations of the public in respect to
arresting situations.

The CID has not been forthcoming with information about how far they have gone about the missing
girls.

Many who followed the story recalls the highlight of the press conference on April 24, 2019 by the CID
Boss, COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah who said “we know where the girls are”
And she went ahead to assured Ghanaians and the parents of the missing kids that within days the girls
would be reunited with their parents.
Uncountable weeks and months down the line, Madam CID boss is yet to produce the children, civil
society including Ghanaians with conscience holds her to her words, then she turn around to interpret
what she said to mean an attempt to console the parents and not because she actually knows the where
about of the kids, what!!!
It’s sickening and heart breaking for a whole CID Boss to be joking with such a peculiar issues and
making mockery of the parents and noble Ghanaians.

If a CID Boss can peddle falsehood and give out misinformation, Then it should not be a crime for
individuals to give false information to the Police department?
In times like this we encourage the general public to allow the social cohesions that will unite us to
override the elements that will divide us. This kidnapping issue has nothing to do with Politics and
therefore Political commentators should eschew the blame game.

It is the interest of students and security we are talking about here! Under no circumstance should we
allow such irresponsible individuals like her to occupy such sensitive positions. We want to use this
opportunity to call on the government to take appropriate action and measures to remediate the issue
on board.

As it may go a long way to undermine the safety and security of this Country.
In times like this when the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.

We the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) led by Mohammed S. Gombilla administration
solemnly affirm our promise to be families of the Kidnapped girls that we won’t give on the fight to bring
back our Girls. We also pledge to continue to remain the mouthpiece in championing a strong voice of
advocacy.

These Girls are Student with full potentials a nation of about 30million population can benefit
from.

Long live NUGS
Long live our nation Ghana,
God bless Ghana and make it truly great and strong.

Thank you.
Signed:

Mohammed S. Gombilla
(NUGS PRESIDENT)

Walker Obeng Darko
