The one-year old baby stolen from her mother at Takoradi Market Circle in the Western Region has been found and rescued by the Police, father of the child told 3news.com a while ago.
“We have found the baby and we have arrested the lady [baby thief] and the boy [suspected husband],” a happy Michael Agbenu told our correspondent Paa Kwesi Simpson
Francis Mawusi Ahiagbenu was rescued in the wee hours of Tuesday from the alleged baby thief and a man believed to be her husband, at Effiakuma Number 1 in Takoradi, following a tip-off.
The two have been arrested and taken into custody for investigations to begin.
The baby was immediately taken to hospital for medical examination before being released to the parent, Mr Agbenu told our correspondent from the hospital.
“I don’t know but It looks like the boy is living with the lady and they want a child because the boy keep insisting that the baby is for him and the girl is saying no, no,” Mr Agbenu told Simpson.
According to Mr Agbenu they got to the home of the baby thief to find her without the little boy but she promised to lead them to where he was being kept.
But the woman was said to have led the police team on a wild goose chase “so we came back to the Police station and then grilled her small and she said let’s go back.
“When we went back, she said we should call her sister so that she will send her sister to go and bring the baby…she was delaying us and then somebody hinted us there is a baby in the room, so we forced and went it” Mr Agbenu said.
He said the baby was then found and rescued.
Police are yet to comment on the matter.
Little Ahiagbenu was stolen from her mother, Nana Akosua Bowaa, a trader at the Market Circle, last Friday by an unidentified woman who was said to have sweet-talked the mother into giving the child to her
Eyewitnesses to the incident claimed the baby-thief had told the child’s mother that she was going to buy pastries for the one-year-old.
