Ofosu Ampofo, who also serves as the national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was allegedly caught on tape, calling on party members to defame some prominent Ghanaians.
YEN.com.gh understands that he also revealed that vigilante groups affiliated with the NDC were present during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election held on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is an elder of the Church of Pentecost, Ofosu-Ampofo again called on members of the party to carry out kidnappings in a bid to create fear and panic in Ghana. Soon after the tape became public, various interpretations have been made, one of which is by the national communications officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, who allegedly said that the tape is doctored.
He explained that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants to divert attention from the recently released galamsey video from Tiger Eye PI, which implicates some government officials. “The tape is doctored, treat it with the contempt it deserves; it has all the trappings of diversions from the illegal mining investigations by Anas,” he said. In a twist of events, his deputy, Kweku Boahen, told Adom FM that the voice was Ofosu Ampofo’s and that the contents of the recordings reflect what transpired at the party’s meeting. The move to authenticate the tape, according to the church, is to enable leadership take a decision on the status of Ofosu Ampofo as an elder, and whether he should still be allowed to preach in the church.
The NDC chairman has since been invited by the police for questioning with regard to the tape.
