Fight Against Illegal Mining Brings River Ankobra Back To Life

0

River Ankobra, hitherto, was at the mercy of illegal miners with their activities which devastated and polluted the river and its resources.

The havoc wreaked on the river was enough to keep residents around the river at bay as their lives were endangered by the devastation that had taken place.

President Akufo-Addo set up the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining with the expressed mandate to change the status quo.

The IMCIM has, over the past year and a half, worked around the clock to clean the system with a wide range of regulatory actions and measures which have contributed immensely to the new regime of sanitized water bodies.

River Ankobra, a pride of the Western Region, is now beaming with smiles as life seems to have returned to the water body.

The following photographs give credence to the fact that the President’s decision to establish a body to clean the system has paid off.

River Ankobra is being patronized by the very people who abandoned it when it got contaminated as a result of the activities of illegal mining activities.

The Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng-led Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining has worked like a Trojan to achieve these results. They have actualized the President’s overwhelming desire to sanitize our environment for the next generation.
