The Member of Parliament for the Prestea /Huni-Valley Constituency, Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, on Wednesday January 2, feted over
1,000 children from Tarkwa Bremang in the Western Region.
The Christmas party which is an annual event organised by the MP for children in her constituency was held at the Tarkwa Bremang Community Centre for children at Tarkwa Bremang and other close by communities.
The MP who is also the Deputy Minister, Lands and Natural Resources, interacted with the children who were served with lots of food and drinks.
The kids had a lot of fun and participated in a dancing competition to display their talents in singing and dancing.
As part of the programme, the children were taught how to practice good personal hygiene with demonstrations of proper hand washing techniques with soap and clean water.
In her address, Mrs Oteng-Gyasi advised the children to emulate the life of Jesus by being obedient, respectful, loving and hardworking.
“Jesus was obedient to his parents and assisted his father Joseph who was a carpenter and also showed love to all. You must also love your siblings and desist from bullying your schoolmates and study hard to achieve academic excellence,” she said.
The MP stressed that when children behaved in such a responsible manner they would grow up to be adults capable of leading the country in future.”
She also reiterated that education of the youth was very important to His Excellency the President for which reason he had introduced the Free Senior High School policy and entreated the children to study seriously to benefit from the policy when they are ready for secondary education.
Each child was provided with a branded exercise book and a packet of pencils for use in school.
The Veronica buckets which were used for the hand washing demonstration were donated to the Tarkwa Bremang Basic School for use by the children.
Lawyer Mrs.Oteng-Gyasi, further charged parents to live exemplary lives to serve as role models for their children and also to extend love to their children at all times, especially when they go wayward.
The event was graced by the MCE for the Prestea/Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, Hon Mozart Owuh, Prestea/Huni-Valley NPP constituency executives, chiefs and elders of the community and parents of the children.
The Chief of Tarkwa Bremang on behalf of the community expressed appreciation to the MP for selecting the town as the beneficiary community for the annual Children’s party and pledged the support of the chiefs in her efforts to bring development to the constituency .
