Mo Salah beat Partey et al to win BBC African Footballer of the Year award again

Ghana’s Thomas Teye Partey could not match the achievement of Egyptian Mohamed Salah as the Liverpool forward was named the 2018 BBC African Footballer of the Year.

The award is the second in succession for Salah, who plays for Liverpool FC.

Aside Partey, who had helped Atletico Madrid win the UEFA Europa League in the year under review, Morocco’s Medhi Benatia and Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Mane were shortlisted for the awards.

But the Pharaohs’ captain appeared to have continued where he left off in 2017 as he was crowned with the award live on radio on Friday, December 14.

The reigning CAF Footballer of the Year is also in contention to win the top continental award for a second time as Ghana’s Partey failed to make it into the 10-man shortlist released on Friday.

The winner will be unveiled on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at a gala ceremony in Dakar, Senegal.
